Sobre la ganadora: 
Maria Kallionpää (b.1981) is an internationally active composer and pianist, currently working on
her doctoral thesis on composition at the Oxford University with the AHRC scholarship and the
scatcherd European Scholarship which she won in 2010.
Previously Kallionpää has graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (2009, Mmus/Composition) and in 2010 she also completed a postgraduate course in electro acoustic composition at the Univärsität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. Kallionpää has obtained her undergraduate degree in piano performance in 2006 (Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences) and studied composition, music technology, and piano at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, as well as at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

In 2013 she won the first prize of the OUPHIL comp. competition, in 2012 she was presented at the
Rainy Days Festival at the main stage of the Philharmonie Luxembourg as well as at the Icon Arts
Festival of the Sibiu Philharmonia (Rumania), and in 2011 she was a composer in residence of the
Turku European Culture Capital (Finland), as well as a finalist at the Tenso European chamber
choir composition competition. At the same year she was also commissioned a new orchestral work
by Festival 'Crashkurs', Hannover and the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. In
2010 Kallionpää premiered her own piano works at the Musikverein Hall in Vienna and she has
been the visiting composer of the “Neue Musik in Thuringen” festival 2007, as well as the
composer in residence of the New England Childrens´ Choir in 2008. In 2007 she premiered her
first piano concerto with UNKO orchestra in Helsinki, the concert was recorded and broadcasted by
the Finnish national radio (YLE).
